LOOK LIKE YOURSELF, BE YOU!

Todays reflection ♥
One thing I find myself thinking a lot about is Self love. In todays society with movies, magazines & social media everything has gotten superficial. People want to look like others and be like others so they’ve totally forgotten about themselves. A lot of people are preoccupied wanting to change themselves into other people they look up to, and they forget about their own talents, abilities and looks. People tend to forget their own strengths and what makes them unique. Why does everyone have to have big lips, behinds and be thin? Why does everyone want to look like the Hadids, sing like Beyonce and act like Viola Davis? I mean hey I would too but that doesn’t mean I forget me, myself & I.

It is nothing wrong with looking up to someone and wanting to be like them, to a certain degree but don’t lose yourself on the way. Focus on your look; what do you like about yourself (highlight that!) & what do you like less about yourself (learn to love it!)? Focus on your talent and abilities; what can you bring to the table? What can you contribute to the world?

If you focus on looking like someone else and being someone else then the world loses someone like you. You were meant to be you. Don’t make us have a billion Kardashians and none of You.

What I disliked most about myself was my smile, I used to not like how my teeth were bigger than others and how much they were showing when I smiled and laughed. I learned to see it from another perspective and learned to love it. Now I see it as a good thing; when I smile/laugh you can see it through my whole face and my big smile! I love that it shows so much when I am happy!

What do you Love about yourself? What do you dislike about yourself? How can you change that? #SELFLOVE

Stop complaining

Sounds easy.. And it kinda is.
I wanted my first post of the year to be about something I have thought about and something I have tried to change. Generally I’m a positive person but like every other human being I do complain, even if it is to myself and not for everyone to hear. As soon as we start to complain a wave of negativity hits us. That wave ain’t a holiday in Mykonos wave, it is a Nazaré (Portugal) surfing wave. In other words, it is high! That negativity tends to make the good things in life go unseen, they are kept hidden behind a wave & makes you focus only on the negative. And all the positives in life are slowly drifting away (drifting awaay, wave after wave hihi).

What I’m trying to say is that complaining -> negativity.
Negativity = bye bye positivity. Wow I really know how to explain things.

On a serious note, I do believe that being aware of when you complain is a real advantage. The minute you complain (and are aware of it) try to control the way you think and try to always see the pros (instead of the cons) in the situation.
You missed the morning bus… Well did you die? Maybe you got an extra minute hug from your kid or an extra minute to eat your apple. It’s not like you will have to run to work, catch the next bus.
– You forgot your headphones at home… Well does it hurt to hear your own thoughts?
– Someone stepped on your foot (super annoying)… Well did you lose your foot?
– It is super snowy and cold AF… Is it really that bad tho??

The little things aren’t little♥

I’ve been thinking about how people today don’t notice or reflect on the little things in life that make us happy. I recently asked that question to two teenagers, without recieving an answer on what small things (it could be everyday stuff) make  them happy. Today I talked about it again with a few of my co-workers over lunch. Since they are older they are wiser (you know who you are haha) so I got a discussion and answer out of it. But being able to foucs on the little things in life really does make a difference in the attitude  we have and our mood.

It’s the little things that make us happy everyday, not the big events that happen every now and then. Be enthusiastic about the small, everyday, stuff. Be happy when someone compliments you, be happy when someone offers you something, be happy when you’re out for a walk, when you listen to your favourite song or when you hang out with your family & friends. Appreciate the little things, the things that happen often. Happiness does not need to be grand but it does make you feel great! 🙂

Why am I making bracelets? #Forhumanity

So a couple of months ago I was sitting by the computer and just looking through my facebook feed. As every other night I see different pictures and videos of children, women and men being brutally murdered (those days were a lot about Aleppo). Every night, for a long time, I was so sad and felt so helpless. I kept looking at our fellow humans leaving this world too soon, children crying and mothers sreaming & I REALLY WANTED TO DO SOMETHING! I kept thinking that there is nothing I could do..

One night I saw a lot of sad and horrible pictures of syrian refugees leaving their homes and trying to escape a war they did not sign up for. I then thought about people that actually make it out of the cities and areas that are war zones and people leaving their homes with nothing… At that moment I knew that I wanted to help those people, the people with nothing. I may not be able to end the war or change that conflict but I can still help my brothers and sisters one way or another. So I kept thinking about how I could help. I reflected on what I like, or what I can make myself, that could raise money and the first thing I thought of was bracelets. I LOVE bracelets and thought why not make simple ones and sell them! I did not let times pass after coming up with that idea because that would have lead to me not doing anything so the second I came up with that idea I went and bought a couple of pearls.

I had some of my wonderful friends come over from time to time to make bracelets with me (since they wanted to hihi). That was so cozy and nice! May they get ajr for their effort and time. Extra shout out to Milka for making a lot of them! 🙂 Making the bracelets with friends and with so much love, made the whole process even more lovely. The bracelets were made with love, compassion and happiness & I hope that the money coming out of this process will make people in Syria feel loved, important and happy iA! 🙂

Bracelets you’ve seen before:

I hope everyone got something out of reading this post. I hope you know that YOU can help and YOU can make a change, if not a big one at least a small one, if not alone at least with friends or family. Something everyone can do is to pray to God to help our brothers and sisters.

I Believe – Music Video #OneLove

Salam!
I thought it would be a great time to share Brandon Jenners EP that came out in a time where it sure is needed! I loved the message so much so I decided to be apart of the video to spread that love (and diversity) in the music video.

I’ve been listening to Brandon and Leah Jenners music for a while. I try to listen to music that has a positive and happy message, about love or life in general and some of their songs sure are about those things BUT this one by B.Jenner is one of my favourites. We live in a world and a time of sadness, wars and racism, just so much hate and that’s why I love the light that this song/video displays.

The message of the song is to believe in one another, for people to believe and live in peace. The video displays different people from all over the world that share different beliefs and what they love. Such a captivating song with depth and filled with love.

Thank you Brandon Jenner for being a sweet soul and using what you do to spread a good message. Be kind to one another & be what you want to see in the world. 🙂

Can you spot me? You can see me twice.

Focus on Love.

So this has been an interesting, sad and depressing weekend.. All of us probably know by now that a lot of people have died around the world just this week! We have lost a lot of brothers and sister in different countries for different reasons. There’s a lot of killing and hate right now, but out of that we always see the Love and Solidarity between people. People go out and show love to different groups of people, they show love to different ethnicities & religions etc and I think that’s AWESOME! People are trying to outshine the hate with Love and that is soo the way to go! If you want to live in a loving society you have to spread love, what you put out there is what you see!! People need to understand this. You can’t go around being mad and hating on people and expect to see a happy and loving world. It doesn’t make sence.

We clearly see how society works (media & politicians etc), how some countries gets mentioned a lot and some don’t, how some crimes are worse than others and what gets the most attention etc. But this is just what a few people in power wants us to see and wants us to focus on. That is why it made me so happy to see how a lot of people go out on social media to write and show love & respect to everybody out there. There is a lot of hate out there but there is even more Love! Focus on Love people.

Lets get back our humanity. Be kind, be loving, be understanding and last but not least be nice. 🙂 #PrayfortheWorld

Reminder: 2/3 of Ramadan.

SubhanaAllah half of ramadan is already gone, it went by super fast!! I usually divide ramadan into three parts, 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3. 10 days each. Okey so I’m just writing this post as a reminder to myself and to all of my muslim peeps!

I went out for a walk with my sister, her new adorable baby and my mom. During this walk I was just thinking about our fasting and how fast ramadan goes by. It feels like it goes by faster every year, subhanaAllah. Anyway and during these 30 days of fasting this is what I’ve noticed:
– 1/3: the first days are super exciting for everyone, everyone is not only fasting but they are feeding their souls. These are the days people set goals and everyone is trying to be better muslim. Which is awesomesauce!!
– 2/3: this is where it kind of takes a turn for some people. When we come to the second and middle part of ramadan alot of people tend to slack and forget alot about what this month is about. People only fast from food and aren’t reading enough quran or making alot of dua anymore etc.
– 3/3: This is the last period of the month where people regain their hype and imaan again. They start to do better and then baam… The month is over.

Now.. Ramadan is a month of the year. This means it’s only 30 days(!) of a good 365 days! Try to not slack, try to take advantage of this holy month. Try to get rid of bad habits, get new/good ones and just make this month count. Make the WHOLE month meaningful. Half of it is already gone, spend the rest of the time wisely and try to stay motivated, even if it can be tough during summer. I really hope everything is going well for everyone, I know the days in most countries can be super long but inshaAllah you’ll get through it with your body and soul. May Allah reward you for your effort and make it easy upon all of you! 🙂

Our three winners

10978516_10153033291963449_7591242115407857740_n
For a while I’ve been wanting to write about the three wonderful and gorgeous people that were murdered in North Carolina, Allahi rahmom. I always try to write about positive things and stuff that makes us happy, motivated or fills us with inspiration. This post will be no different. Deah (23), Yusor(21) and Razan(19) were three young people filled with so much love, humbleness and happiness. They were three regular young adults in one part of the world, and in one day they became the most talked about world wide. People die around the world all the time but people have a hard time relating to it but these three people are so easy to relate to and I think that it’s one of the reasons people were in chock and sad. After three days of being so sad for these people and their families I am now so happy for their families who are experiencing so much love from around the world. They and we know that these three individuals were outstanding(muslims) and are now rolemodels for millions of people. Their characters and personalities were so unbelievably pure and good that millions were sad to loose them even though they didn’t know them, millions want justice and awareness of what is happening (the hate around the world). Best of all, millions are making dua for them (prayer). What a sense of tranquility the parents and families must feel knowing that their is a hereafter and that there is a Paradise for the good ones. May Allah let them all meet there one day!

Razan, Yusor and Deah reminded us of our love to our religion, of our visit in this dunya and our time on this earth. They represented Islam with so much class and kindess, they are indeed the definition of muslims. They showed love to everybody, left everybody happy, strived to be the best and loved to help the less fortunate. They are the three winners indeed. Lets all strive to be like them in one way or another. May Allah reunite our ummah in Paradise. Don’t forget them and our brothers and sisters around the world in your duas!10997899_506567259481245_1899920012239559720_n

Happiness in a box!

So you guys know that I am all about positivity! 🙂 I love what this factor stands for and how it is an essential factor in our lives, that makes life better. Just positivity itself can lead to so many things as happiness, love and motivation. All these things are stuff we need to think about and that is why I wanted to share an idea of how you can maintain this in your lives.

I have a way of reminding myself everyday of how blessed and loved I am. That makes me positive and motivated for everything I do in life. I have a little, pink box on my bedroom table, next to it I have small note-sized pieces of paper and a pink pen. What I do is I write down one quote, aya(quran verse) or a saying that I like on each paper. Then I fold the notes and put it into the box. You are probably wondering why but what I do is I open up the box each morning to read one note a day, and there I find a quote or something else I find inspiring and uplifting.

If you don’t want to write them yourself you can have your friends or familymembers write notes and put them in the box so you’ll read their favorite quotes and motivational notes instead. Right now my box is filled with notes from my friends and family so when I read their quotes and also the name of who wrote it I always smile, seeing the name of my loved ones makes me even happier!! 🙂 I hope you liked this idea! Here are some notes from my box that I have opened so far:
